a) Job Purpose
The job holder will be responsible for providing overall strategic leadership and directions for operations and safety management of the aerodromes. It entails the oversight of the implementation of Programs and services aimed at ensuring reliability, efficiency, and adherence to National Civil Aviation regulations, as well as compliance with International Standards and Recommended Practices, that are critical to facilitating safe and secure aircraft operations.

b) Key Duties and Responsibilities
i. Overseeing the implementation of International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards as well as regulations and guidelines from Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) in the operations of all Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) airports and airstrips;
ii. Reviewing the capacity of the current airport facilities vis-à-vis current and anticipated demands;
iii. Recommending initiatives for upgrading and/or enhancement of operational facilities, passenger facilitation, ground and cargo services in order to continuously provide exceptional seamless, safe and efficient service to passengers and customers and enhance realization of revenue targets;
iv. Developing and reviewing of the departmental strategy and policies;
v. Implementing policies, processes and standard operating procedures manuals;
vi. Ensuring performance measures are designed to evaluate performance against the strategic plan and conduct performance management evaluations to ensure superior levels of performance are maintained;
vii. Developing strategic partnerships with industry players to support business growth;
viii. Ensuring adherence to policies, procedures regulatory and statutory guidelines;
ix. Ensuring adherence to Human Resource policies and Procedures in the management of employees; and
x. Facilitating statutory and internal audits.

c) Key Qualifications and Experience
i. Bachelor’s degree in Airport Operations or Business-related field from a recognized institution
ii. Master’s degree in Airport Operations or Business-related field from a recognized institution
iii. At least twelve (12) years relevant experience four (4) of which must have been in Senior Management
iv. Management course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution.
v. Proficiency in computer applications

d) Skills and Competencies
Strategy execution, analytical, people management, coaching, problem solving & decision-making, prudence in financial management, teamwork, good communication, interpersonal, risk management and leadership skills.

Terms and Conditions of Service
The General Manager position shall be for a Three (3) Year Contract term renewable subject to satisfactory performance or attainment of mandatory retirement age whichever happens earlier.

(v) Report from an approved Credit Reference Bureau (CRB)

The clearance certificates should be valid and current. The self-declaration Form from EACC should indicate the respective position that is being applied for.
