Kenya Airports Authority Welcomes SalamAir’s Inaugural Flight at JKIA

On March 17, 2025, Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) celebrated a significant milestone as SalamAir launched its inaugural flight from Muscat, Oman to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA). The event marked the beginning of a new era of affordable travel options connecting East Africa to the Middle East and beyond. SalamAir, Oman’s low-cost airline, will operate bi-weekly flights between Muscat and Nairobi, offering travelers convenient and budget-friendly alternatives.

The inaugural flight was welcomed with a special ceremony at JKIA attended by distinguished guests, including: Mr. Mohamed Daghar, Principal Secretary, State Department for Transpor, H.E. Amb. Nasra Salim Mohamed Al Hashmi, Omani Ambassador to Kenya, H.E. Amb. Abdi Aden Korio, Kenyan Ambassador to Oman and Hon. Caleb Kositany, Chairman of the KAA Board of Directors, .

Speaking at the event, Hon. Caleb Kositany emphasized KAA’s commitment to enhancing airport infrastructure to meet growing passenger demand and support Kenya’s position as a key export hub. He highlighted ongoing projects such as upgrades to airside facilities and improvements in cargo handling capabilities aimed at facilitating the export of fresh produce and other goods.

SalamAir’s entry into the Nairobi-Muscat route represents a major step in strengthening ties between Kenya and Oman while enhancing JKIA’s position as a key gateway to East Africa. This new route offers seamless connections from Nairobi to destinations across SalamAir’s network, including India, Thailand, Central Asia, and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.

SalamAir’s bi-weekly flights provide travelers with fares starting at approximately Sh16,788 ($130), making them up to 70% cheaper than competitors on similar routes. This affordability opens up new travel opportunities for leisure and business passengers while fostering tourism and trade between Kenya and Oman.

As SalamAir continues its expansion into East Africa, this route is expected to lay the groundwork for future connections across the region. KAA remains committed to partnering with airlines like SalamAir to improve connectivity, boost tourism, and facilitate trade that drives regional economic growth. The introduction of SalamAir at JKIA underscores KAA’s role in positioning Nairobi as a hub for international travel while supporting Kenya’s vision of becoming a leader in global aviation.
